Mercedes was previously a brand of Daimler – first used in 1901, and named after the daughter of the entrepreneur and racing driver Emil Jellinek, who worked with Gottlieb Daimler. The Mercedes–Benz brand was used from this date (28 June 1926).
Karl Benz's 1886 Benz Patent–Motorwagen is widely regarded as the first petrol–powered motor car.
